    Aims
    Further the ideals, objectives and programmes of UNESCO and, to that end, further, strengthen and encourage the development of UNESCO clubs, centres and associations; promote international understanding and education, particularly with a view to the effective exercice of human rights, the endogenous development of every people, and the construction of a new world economic and social order, and pursue these aims also in nations and peoples, particularly in order to advance mutual understanding among the different cultures in the world; involve people in UNESCO work, particularly at the grass roots level; promote utilization of science and technology for peaceful purposes, for the welfare of humanity, and, in particular, of the developing countries; promote in all societies the right of every person and every people to a cultural identity.

    Activities
    Plan of Action: 'Friends of the Treasures of the World' (preservation of heritage), including Friends of the World Treasures (FWT)*; promotion of books and reading (partnership between rich and poor countries); development of 'community development centres' (with the Japanese federation). Centre for Studies, Research and Training in International Understanding and Cooperation (CERFCI)* - programme focusing mainly on: development; communication; cultural heritage; environment; literacy; human rights. Organizes study sessions, workshops and seminars on various topics within this framework. Organizes youth meetings and ad-hoc meetings.

    Contribution to UNESCO's programmes Through its network of “Learning Centres”, WFUCA provides input to the programme on education for all and poverty alleviation. in cooperation with BREDA, will strengthen its network of “Education Centres” in Africa for education for all facilitating the organization of literacy training courses. WFUCA participates in peace-building and in the dialogue among civilizations though major international artistic projects such as “Mondo Arte” and “Free gesture” Elected to the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee Culture (Major Programme IV). On the occasion of the 30th anniversary othe Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, WFUCA is planning to organize restoration work on one or two world heritage sites. As in the preceding experiments carried out at Gorée and at Fez, WFUCA will help through its operations to enhance the young participants’ awareness of the international dimension of the cultural heritageand the dialogue among civilizations. As part of “support for programme execution”, WFUCA will continue to play its role in exchanging information among its network’s members, providing advice on national and regional projects, developing new federations and training the movement’s key personnel, in cooperation with UNESCO.
