Contribution to UNESCO's programmes Admitted to consultative relations in 1958 and then to the former category C in 1962, the Academy has been a UNESCO partner for many years. After the adoption of the 1995 NGO Directives and the subsequent reclassification exercise, relations with the Academy were placed on an informal basis in 1998 because cooperation had weakened with the passage of time. Since 1998 cooperation has strengthened noticeably, in particular through the Academy’s representative’s active participation in all the collective activities of NGOs maintaining official relations with UNESCO, such as collective consultations, joint programme commissions, international NGO conferences held in the 1998-2004 period, and its participation in sessions of the UNESCO General Conference during that period. Substantive and regular working relations have developed in recent years, in particular with the Culture Sector under the crafts and design programme. Like UNESCO, the Academy is a partner of the international festival of films on ceramics held every two years in Montpellier (France) by the Ateliers d’Art de France (most recent festival held in March 2004). In view of the Academy’s efforts to broaden its geographic coverage and the growth of UNESCO’s activities in the field of ceramics, the Culture Sector strongly recommends the reestablishment of official relations with this NGO.
